STUDY and MASTERCLASSES

aquarel

An explosion of color. In this study I opted for bright contrasting colors, which makes the beautiful light eyes pop even more. Thanks to a masterclass from Fiona di Pinto.

I was able to follow a pleasant and instructive workshop by Beatrix Frederiks. She took me, step by step, in making this ordinary 'boring' sparrow on canvas. Take a good look, because there is nothing 'dull' about the sparrow. They are beautiful birds.

charcoal

For this work I used charcoal, pencil and watercolor. I didn't put too much emphasis on details. This rough and at the same time fresh work arose from this. Thanks to a masterclass by Juna Biagioni.

acrylics and pastel

In this work I used several materials. Charcoal, chalk/pastel, acrylic paint and water. Inspired by Lida Meines. This beautiful cat  is here in a recording booth, at the clinic ; recovering from major surgery. Huddled in the dim light, on a soft blanket, with a hot water bottle. He looks at me a little more. 'Calm down, little friend, you'll have all the time'

charcoal

A small study drawing. Pigmented 'old' paper suited me best with this strict old-fashioned image.

acrylics

Playing with structure and color. This large work is made with acrylic paint and sand. Sand is a good tool to make beautiful structures. In this work, the focus is on the red dress. Do you notice that your eyes are also drawn to the red umbrella in the distance? Thanks to a nice webinar by artist Corrie Leushuis

pastel

A very different medium than what I'm used to: chalk/pastel This material 'forces' you to work loose. I think it's great to put down the details and characteristics of a person. My motto “look-see, hear-listen, feel- and in this case chalk” comes to the fore especially with these types of individual works. Feel (so don't think too much) and put down the pigment immediately. In less than an hour this was on paper. Thanks to an instructive (and very smooth) webinar by Alain J. Picard.

watercolor

Watercolor…a medium that you cannot force, but you can more or less control. One of the hardest mediums out there, but oh so much fun to use. With watercolor it is very important to make a plan in advance. How will the build-up be, which white parts do I save, what happens when using certain pigments. A nice course from  Katarzyna Kmiecik, a professional in landscape watercolours.
